Sally Conran Design

Sally Conran is an art director and stylist whose passions involve interior design and lifestyle. Here's a selection of some of her works regarding interior arrangements:

What is striking at first when looking at her projects is an overall feeling of peace, harmony and not to mention elegance. All the elements seem to feet perfectly in the light decors and looking at them seems to make their atmosphere contagious- it is almost like a change of state. Decorating elements such as candles, interesting wallpapers, unusual vases with flowers enhance this perception. The mix of mellow colours is also of great effect.

Cannot be Tamed

I am the rain, who's been held in disdain.

The truth is...
I'm ruthless,
I can't be contained.

Two is Better than One

Song Title Two is Better than One
Singer Boys Like Girls feat. Taylor Swift
Songwriter Martin Johnson, Taylor Swift
Album Love Drunk

I remember what you wore on the first day.
You came into my life and I thought,
"Hey, you know, this could be something".
'Cause everything you do and words you say,
you know that it all takes my breath away.
And now I'm left with nothing.

So maybe it's true, that I can't live without you.
And maybe two is better than one.
But there's so much time, to figure out the rest of my life.
And you've already got me coming undone.
And I'm thinking two is better than one.

I remember every look upon your face.
The way you roll your eyes.
The way you taste.
You make it hard for breathing.
'Cause when I close my eyes and drift away,
I think of you and everything's okay.
I'm finally now believing.

Stretching Your Mind:

Too often, many of our problems arise from acting before thinking. We confuse activity with productivity. We think, “I’m so busy, I must be accomplishing something!” In reality, we may just be spinning our wheels. Like sitting in a rocking chair, you can expend a lot of energy and create a lot of motion, but you still aren’t going anywhere.

Progress and productivity always require thought!

A wise man is cautious and avoids danger.
A fool plunges ahead with great confidence.
A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it!

Lauder Legacy

Aerin Lauder would hate the term Park Avenue Princess, but that's what she is: The granddaughter of the legendary Estée Lauder, founder of the half-century-old $3.5 billion global cosmetics empire, and daughter of Ronald Lauder, the 57-year-old chairman of Clinique and former United States ambassador to Austria.

The long, thin, swan's neck supports a finely sculptured head. The patrician features, regal chin, confident glare and radiant complexion scream Park Avenue. The tall, cigarette-thin figure, emphasized by four-inch stiletto heels, is suggestive of a typical svelte Park Avenue Princess.

But, she is unassuming, unpretentious, very real. Very down to earth. There isn't a trace of arrogance or hauteur about her and it's not an accident. She has been raised to despise arrogance, even as a pose. One of a new breed of trust-fund tycoons - who actually work although they're born wealthy - she had the beauty business in her blood.

In her 20s, sporting Manolo Blahniks with Michael Kors or Oscar de la Renta wherever she went, she was regularly featured on magazine best-dressed lists alongside Hollywood stars and rock divas.

Now, at 30, Aerin is director of creative marketing of Estée Lauder, a senior executive in the family business. She brings her grandmother's implacable zeal and - at least as important - her instinct, to duties that include trawling Paris and Milan for next season's fashion and color trends.

"When people ask me, 'Why do you work?' I find that almost rude," she says. "Everybody has to work. You've got to work hard at whatever you do. You've got to do something that stimulates your mind, otherwise life becomes very petty and you have too much time to worry about nonsense. Even if you don't work in an office and you want to be at home with your children, then work at something you think is important. Do something!"

As well as her demanding business schedule, Aerin also has a dizzying social life. She is regularly featured in Avenue, Quest, W and Vogue as a guest at this garden party or that. In 1996, she married her college-days sweetheart, investment banker Eric Zinterhofer, son of a New Jersey pathologist, in a Hamptons wedding. They have one son.

Bringing Home The Birkin

An insider's hilarious, whirlwind account of his years spent globe-trotting in search of the holy grail of handbags: the Birkin!

For more than twenty years, the Hermès Birkin bag has been the iconic symbol of fashion, luxury, and wealth. Though the bag is often seen dangling from the arms of celebrities, there is a fabled waiting list of more than two years to buy one from Hermès, and the average fashionista has a better chance of climbing Mount Everest in Prada pumps than of possessing one of these coveted carryalls. Unless, of course, she happens to know Michael Tonello . . .

Michael's newfound career started with an impulsive move to Barcelona, a vanished job assignment, no work visa, and an Hermès scarf sold on eBay to generate some quick cash. But soon the resourceful Michael discovered the truth about the waiting list and figured out the secret to getting Hermès to part with one of these precious bags. Millions of dollars worth of Birkins later, Michael had become one of eBay's most successful entrepreneurs—and a Robin Hood to thousands of desperate rich women.

With down-to-earth wit, Michael chronicles the unusual ventures that took him to nearly every continent, from eBay to Paris auction house and into the lives of celebrities and poseurs. Flirting with danger, Michael recounts the heady rush of hand delivering his first big score to famed songwriter Carole Bayer Sager in Paris; how he had to hire thugs to rescue a bag that one of his "shoppers" held for ransom; and the story of the Oscar-worthy performances that allowed him to snag "reserved" bags from other, less dogged Birkin seekers.

Whether he's relating his wining and dining, buying and selling, dodging and weaving, laughing and crying, or schmoozing and stammering, Michael is a master raconteur who weaves together tales of hunting Birkins in the world's most posh locales, memories of meals that would make any gastronome salivate, anecdotes of obsessed collectors with insatiable desires, and sweetly intimate stories about his family, friends, and finding true love. The result is a memoir that is distinctive, fun, page-turning, and as addictive as its namesake.

McQ, Aftermath

Sarah Burton proved she's the only choice to expand on Lee McQueen's legacy with a Resort collection that effortlessly updated his design codes without losing his drama. There's so much great material lying fallow in old McQueen collections that it would overwhelm anyone without the empathy, experience, and ability to edit that Burton brings to a difficult job.

Significantly for the future, proportions were lifted, with a higher waist taking some of the edge off of McQueen's traditional silhouette. Pieces like this have a straightforward chic.

It worked spectacularly well with evening dresses that fell away beautifully from the torso. One of them—in what looked like blood-drenched chiffon—evoked a vision of Isabelle Adjani in La Reine Margot, one of McQueen's favorite movies. It seems a taste for the macabre comes as naturally to Burton as it did to him. She shares his instinct for extreme glamour, too. His Hollywood clientele will scarcely be disappointed.

The tension between hardness and fragility that characterized McQueen's work was successfully sustained in defined shoulders (some armored like a samurai's) and tailored torsos that fell away into fins of diaphanousness. Burton continued to hybridize fabrics as she did in the Fall collection—lace transformed into chiffon in one cocktail dress.

Touches like that should allay the inevitable fears of McQueen's fans that continuation of his line would involve some kind of sellout. Burton hasn't neglected the dark romance, either—the brocades, the bullion embroidery are still here. She's simply let some light in.

The Theory is still Just a Theory

Outside...
There was the same frosty stillness.
The same moonlight.

The sky was nothing but dreary blackness.
The stars were hardly noticeable.
The sky was no attraction.

And I am lying here on my bed.

And if I blink my eyes enough,
maybe I will wake up and you will still be there sleeping next to me.

We all want to look fashionable but this is impossible without knowing modern tendencies in the fashion world. Some of the Spring/ Summer 2010 trends will be out and some will still be hot. And a few absolutely new trends will shatter the glamorous world soon.

So, the Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 trends are the following:

Sexy turtlenecks. Although the turtleneck seems to be one of the clothing items that simply cannot be sexy we say that sexy turtleneck is a hot trend for Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 season. Everything depends on how you wear it. Try to mix colors and add some funky accessories to your look and the turtleneck will change from the very dull to a stylish piece.

High collars. These aren’t only fashionable, they are very practical as well. In addition to making you look modern high collar will keep you warm from cold winter winds.

Thigh-high boots. These boots have become a favorite with many women. They look sexy and feel comfortable. To add to this, they provide a great coverage to the leg that is essential for winter time. So, it’s still a trend and you have one more season to rock your best pair!
