Under Construction

I'm doing some slight changes with the design and layout of the images in every post, just like this one. I'm kind of going through my archives one by one. I'd be really grateful if you let me know what you think of it... Thanks sweethearts!

# Carine Roitfeld

Among too many people in the fashion industry, one or two persona really stands out in the crowd:

I like to wear high heels with sweat pants,
to wear white shoes in the middle of winter.
I love when things are not going quite together.
Even when I'm old, I will dress like that.

Sometimes, when you go to the airport and look at people,
you see the worst looks.
But the worst looks can give you more ideas than the best looks.
-Carine Roitfeld

Carine, 53, has always been a charismatic Parisian in every detail of her life. She has immaculate taste, and she is beyond unconventional in her thinking. With some principles such the like as: a preference for the “now” rather than the “new,” a preference for imperfection rather than so-called good taste and an attitude driven by intuition rather than reason. Most of all, she has an innate ability to mix street culture and society, always avoiding the caricatures that can define both worlds and always recognizing the mix of both worlds as the only catalyst of energy and creativity.

Now the editor in chief of French Vogue, she is influential almost without knowing it. By choosing influence over power, she has an effortless credibility. Her definition of fashion is clearly hedonistic, embracing fashion’s immediacy but with a broad cultural vision that puts everything in perspective. She has always been fully committed to fashion and also gracious to all. She plays by her own refreshing rules, not by the kindergarten politics that often governs the business.

Vera Wang on *Bride Wars

Costume designer Karen Patch worked closely with Vera Wang to design two Vera Wang custom wedding gowns for Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars. Kate’s dress was in fact based on a gown from Vera Wang’s 2009 collection but with a few changes including, “different fabric and more layers of bobbinette. It was so big she could barely fit going down the aisle.” (Read the interview here)

Anne Hathaway’s dress was supposed to be passed down from her mother, so there had to be a sense of nostalgia in the design. There is speculation that Anne’s dress was based on a gown from Vera Wang’s fall 2005 collection.

And since I am a hopeless romantic, I could not help but drift into la la land as I saw these editorial photographs on Vera Wang’s site. Just beautiful…

One April Day

One April day, we'll go miles away...
In the middle of nowhere, where the world is just ours.

With the breezy wind gently stroking our hairs,
the sun peeping from bushes of clouds,
pieces of dandelion flying around us...

I'll turn to you and say,
"I've always loved you and I'll always love you"

Marc Jacobs' Outrageous 80s

Leave it to Marc Jacobs to deliver a neon-hued, big-shouldered, crimpy-haired eighties antidote to the gloom and doom. "I was thinking about the good old days in New York," he said after the show, "when getting dressed up was such a joy." By the good old days, Jacobs means the nights he spent at clubs like Area, the Palladium, and Paradise Garage.

He worked his way through little silver-and-black A-line shifts; party dresses in metallic leathers and floral brocades with flaring, full skirts and monster shoulders; velvet bustier tops and high-waisted over-dyed jeans; and Crayola-bright jackets, capes, and hooded coats. The only filter that separated these clothes from their East Village forebears was the expensive, luxury fabrics they came in. The cumulative effect of all that color, volume, and optimism? One editor called it "A Flock of Seagulls meets Alexis Carrington."

Desire...

I may still be uncertain
of what I am going to be in the future,
but I do know that someday:

I want to live in a place
filled with my books and travel souvenirs.
And the walls will be covered with
photos of my family and friends.

When I leave the house,
I will be going to a job I love
and I'll return to a person I love,
with a bunch of little kids.

So that's the dream I'm working on...

Take a leap of faith.

Sometimes reality is meaninglessly impossible.
But while others are cloaked in cynicism, clouded with apathy.
Let us be unafraid to hope.

Do not abandon yourselves
in the despair of shattered hopes, broken dreams.
for Easter spells out beauty, the rare beauty of new life.
Take a leap of faith.
Happy easter.

Malandrino Eco Totes

“Eco” as an accessory adjective has assumed something of an evergreen quality among fashion folk. Catherine Malandrino’s kicky new eco totes are a wallet-friendly $25 each and is made of 95 percent recycled materials.
The “J’ai Deux Amours” tote gives shout-outs to Malandrino’s preferred urban haunts, New York on one side and Paris on the other. It’s a good look for either city—and, once summer arrives, for celebrating Mother Earth with a beach towel and an ocean view. Totes will be available at Catherine Malandrino boutiques in time for Earth Week, which kicks off this year on April 17.
